January is School Board Recognition Month. This week’s 30-Second Survey asks readers to describe the qualities of an effective school board member. We all know the legal requirements—residency in the school district for a year, voter registration, no interest in any conflict with or claim against the board, the ability to read and write, etc. But clearly, school board membership requires much more in terms of time, effort, commitment and attitude.
