Nominating Committee Lists
Applicants for NJSBA Office

Dec. 20, 2011 was the deadline for candidates to submit applications to the NJSBA Nominating Committee for President and three Vice President positions (County Activities, Finance, and Legislation/Resolutions).  NJSBA’s Nominating Committee will present a slate of candidates for election at the Association’s Annual Meeting on May 19, 2012. 

NJSBA policy (GO/8204) directs that all applicants seeking nomination as an officer by the Nominating Committee shall have their name, school district/county and position sought announced in School Board Notes following the deadline for submission of nominations.

As of the deadline, NJSBA received eight applications from the following local school board members:

President

  • John Bulina, Tabernacle Board of Education, Burlington County
  • Charles T. Miller, East Amwell Board of Education, Hunterdon County
  • Eva M. Nagy, Franklin Township Board of Education, Somerset County

Vice President for County Activities

  • Anne K. Erickson, Hamilton Township Board of Education, Atlantic County
  • Marsha J. Hershman, Lindenwold Board of Education, Camden County

Vice President for Finance

  • Donald Webster Jr., Manchester Township Board of Education, Ocean County

Vice President for Legislation/Resolutions

  • Rosemary A. Bernardi, Evesham Township Board of Education, Burlington County
  • Arthur L. Robinson, South Brunswick Township Board of Education, Middlesex County

Nomination by Petition NJSBA Bylaws also provide for candidates to be nominated by petition, signed by at least 10 members from at least five different district boards of education and filed with the Executive Director.  On March 15, 2012, petitions may be obtained by visiting NJSBA’s website.  Petitions may not be circulated prior to March 15 and must be received by the Executive Director no later than April 4, 2012.

Signatures need not all appear upon a single petition and any number of petitions may be filed on behalf of a candidate, but no petition shall contain the endorsement of more than one candidate.

Nominations by petition should be sent via Federal Express or registered/receipt-requested mail.  The written consent of the candidate for nomination by petition must be filed with the Executive Director within the same time limit.

Information with Petition When submitting nominations by petition, candidates should include a “head and shoulders” photo and a resume that includes a 200-word statement explaining why they are seeking the position.  Resumes should contain information under the following headings:  Local Board Activities; County Activities; NJSBA Activities; Education; and Employment/Community Activities.  A sample resume may be obtained from Barbara Deveney by calling (888) 886-5722, ext. 5256.  A report of all candidates by petition will be made no later than April 9, 2012.  The report will appear in School Board Notes and on NJSBA’s website.

Nominations from Floor NJSBA Bylaws also permit nominations to be made from the floor at the annual meeting.  The nominator must have the written consent of the candidate for nomination and present it to the presiding officer at the time the nomination is made.

Hood, Greater Egg Harbor Board of Education, Atlantic County; Annette Jordan, Freehold Borough Board of Education, Monmouth County; Theresa Kohl, Metuchen Board of Education, Middlesex County; Michael R. McClure, Maple Shade Board of Education, Burlington County; Joyce A. Miller, Gibbsboro Board of Education, Camden County; Daniel Sinclair, Wanaque Board of Education, Passaic County; Paul Williams, Harmony Board of Education, Warren County; and Patricia L.
