The New Jersey School Boards Association has developed the first phase of an action plan to address Senate Bill 1701, the new budget cap law. Members Sought to Study Student Achievement

As part of its continued efforts to close the achievement gap in the state’s lowest performing districts, the Department of Education is seeking active and retired educators and administrators to serve on school support teams for the Collaborative Assessment and Planning for Achievement (CAPA) project. State Board Welcomes New Member

Josephine E. Figueras, a resident of Elizabeth and a vice-president at Passaic County Community College, was recently appointed to the state Board of Education. She succeeds Orlando Edreira as the Union County representative to the state board. Get the full story.

NJSBA Honors Milestone Award Recipients
The New Jersey School Boards Association is proud to announce the names of board members who have received the 2004 Milestone Award for their many years of service to public education in the state. Get the full story.
New DYFS Hotline

As an initial step in reforming the child welfare system in New Jersey, the Division of Youth and Family Services has established a call screening center and a new hotline (1-877-NJ ABUSE) for reporting child abuse and neglect.

The call center will operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year, replacing local screeners at more than 30 DYFS district offices. Nearly 40 screeners will staff the center on weekdays, assessing child abuse and neglect allegations from across the state.
