June 12th Legislative Action
A-2640 (Sires, Doria)Would allow school boards, educational services commissions and jointure commissions to offer an early retirement package to employees enrolled in the Public Employees Retirement System or the Teachers Pension and Annuity Fund. Employees, age 50 or older, who have at least 25 years in PERS or TPAF would be given an additional three years of service credit toward their pensions. Workers, age 60 or older with 10 to 20 years of service, would be eligible to receive an additional $500 a month in pension benefits for the first 24 months of retirement. The boards and commissions could issue refunding bonds to retire the present value of the unfunded accrued pension liabilities for early retirement incentive benefits. Get the full story.
