Voters in 18 School Districts to Act on $326 Million School Construction Spending

Voters in 18 New Jersey school districts acted on construction proposals totaling more than $326.6 million this Tuesday. More than $95 million of the proposed spending would be funded through grants under the state’s Educational Facilities Construction and Financing Act. The act, signed in July 2000, provides $8.6 billion in state grants for school construction, funding at least 40 percent of what the state determines are eligible costs of local projects. Feds Publish Prayer Guidelines
On February 7, the United States Department of Education published Guidance on Constitutionally Protected Prayer in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools. This was published in response to the No Child Left Behind Act, which requires such guidelines to be distributed biennially. Get the full story.
School Ethics Commission Issues Decisions
The School Ethics Commission recently issued three complaint decisions that further clarify school official activity under the School Ethics Act. In each of these decisions, the Commission found a violation of the act and forwarded the matter to the commissioner of education with a recommended penalty.
