Department of
Education Presents Unsafe School Policy to State Board |
|
According to a draft policy document under consideration by the
state Board of Education, districts with unsafe schools will be
identified and notified by July 1. The federal
No Child
Left Behind Act requires states to establish policies that will
allow students who attend persistently dangerous public schools or
are victims of violent crimes to attend a safe school within their
district. The
New Jersey
Department of Education presented the draft policy to the state
board last week. Get the

Assembly Passes School Borrowing Bill |
|
The Assembly passed legislation last week that would permit
school districts to borrow funds to cover a delay in the final
state aid installment. The administration plans to delay the
payment, due on June 22, until July 7. This will leave numerous
school districts short on funds to meet payroll and other
financial obligations through June 30, the end of their fiscal
year. The bill, A-3521 (Greenwald/ Watson Coleman), passed the
Assembly by a vote of 44-34.
