Legislature Plans Hearings on School Construction Projects

The Assembly Education Committee will hold statewide public hearings over the summer to better understand the difficulties school districts are experiencing with school construction projects.
Assembly Education Committee Chairman Joseph Doria made the announcement last week at the Mario Drago School in Passaic. The Drago School, an Abbott district school, hosted the committee’s meeting, which heard testimony from Gordon MacInnes, assistant commissioner for the Division of Abbott Implementation at the Department of Education. Members of the Passaic School District also presented testimony to the committee on Abbott-related issues. Get the full story.

Board Certification Achievements

Five school boards recently achieved the prestigious Board Certification designation. To do so, a board must earn 18 credits within a three-year period in the NJSBA Board Member Academy program, participate in a retreat of at least one full day or longer, and conduct a board self-evaluation. Get the full story and view the photos.

Each month NJSBA will provide a list of significant education-related dates, along with contact information to assist local districts in promoting these events in their schools and communities. We encourage school boards to share with NJSBA any activities that are planned in honor of these special dates. Please contact Josephine Kane at jkane@njsba.org or 609-278-5242
