gov. mcgreevey Governor Holds Town Meeting

Governor James E. McGreevey will hold a town meeting on May 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fairleigh Dickinson’s Hackensack campus.

The meeting will take place in the main gymnasium of the Rothman Center.
    During his campaign, McGreevey promised New Jerseyans that he would hold town meetings throughout the state as part of his commitment to give government back to the people and to provide them with a state government that is responsive and accountable.

NJSBA Board of Directors to Meet

Technology Educators Win Big
Five New Jersey teachers were recent winners of the 2002 Innovative Technology Educator Awards, sponsored by the Technology Educators Association of New Jersey and the Martinson Family Foundation. The awards recognize outstanding dedication to, and innovative practice in, the field of technology education.
    The winners are: Andrew Barcello, Marlboro Middle School; Steve Megna, Glen Meadow Elementary School, Vernon; James Novotny, Livingston High School; Mark Wallace, High Point Regional High School; and Colleen Walsh-Barnes, Livingston High School. Each winner will receive an unrestricted cash prize of $10,000.

Rewards for Good Technology Partnerships
The National Association of Partners in Education and the SBC Foundation will award cash prizes to outstanding education partnerships that help teachers integrate telecommunications technology into their classrooms. The partnerships can include collaboration between schools, institutions of higher learning, businesses, various organizations, government agencies and individuals. Technological applications in the classroom can include the Internet, distance learning, interactive learning and learning networks.
    Besides two grand prize awards of $10,000 each, applicants are also eligible for a gold award of $5,000 or 10 honorable mention awards of $500 each. Winners will be invited to attend an awards luncheon in Washington, D.C. at the National Symposium on Partners in Education, to exhibit their program at the symposium, and to be featured in the Partners In Education national newsletter and on its Web site.

The 10th Annual Model Schools Conference will take place in Washington, D.C. from June 30 to July 3 to showcase outstanding schools and education programs from across the nation.
    Convened by the International Center for Leadership in Education, the conference will draw educators, business leaders and policymakers together to examine and discuss the many elements that constitute school reform.

Advance Registration for May Delegate Assembly

NJSBA has extended the cutoff for advance delegate registration for the Annual Delegate Assembly to May 16. The deadline was extended to accommodate delegates and alternates who were appointed or elected at recent board reorganization meetings.
    If the delegate or alternate is unable to attend, any voting member of the board of education may be certified to represent the board at the meeting. Delegates may register online or by calling Cindy Stanhope at 1-888-886-5722. To be certified on-site, delegates must show proof on district letterhead that they have been designated to represent the board at the meeting.
    The delegate handbook, consisting of all agenda items, was mailed to pre-registered delegates or to the school business administrator if a delegate was not registered by April 23. The election of officers to serve the Association from 2002 to 2004 is also on the agenda.
