Nine Pilot Districts Prepare for Assessment Project
Teachers and administrators from nine selected school districts met this summer in Princeton for a week of training in preparation for their roles in New Jersey’s Performance Assessment Pilot Project. Under the direction of Willa Spicer, the project will lead to the development of a valid and reliable method of student performance assessment that will complement the state’s traditional standardized tests. Supreme Court Upholds Punitive Damage Award Against School District
The New Jersey Supreme Court, in a recent 4-3 decision, held that, under the Conscientious Employer Protection Act (CEPA), punitive damages may be awarded against public entities, including school districts. In addition, the Court held that the CEPA one-year statute of limitations begins to run from the date of the final act of retaliation when there is a continued course of retaliatory conduct by the employer.
