Voucher Attempt Turned Back

For the second consecutive week, public school advocates helped to turn back a voucher-like bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. Earlier this month, House leaders, apparently lacking the votes needed for passage, withdrew the Back to School Tax Relief Act (H.R. 5193), which would provide taxpayers a $3,000 a year tax deduction to cover education expenses including private school tuition and fees. The proposal would cost an estimated $4.9 billion over five years. Get the full story.

The Alliance for Competitive Energy Services (ACES) has already begun its work to lower school districts'

Negotiations Seminar Offered
On October 5, NJSBA will hold its Intermediate Bargaining program at the National Conference Center at the Ramada Inn in East Windsor.
      The program will address negotiations ground rules, analysis of union proposals, development of counter-proposals, use of comparative data, and attainment of board proposals through communications skills and trade-offs.
