Dear Members,

As we move into the final weeks of the school year, I hope this message finds you well and that your districts are finishing the school year strong.

I’m writing to you today with immense enthusiasm as I step into my role as your President! The opportunity to serve and collaborate with all of you over the next two years is truly energizing, and I’m incredibly excited about what we can accomplish together for New Jersey’s public schools.

I also need to share some important news. Over the weekend, Vice President Chanta Jackson informed me of her resignation from the Board of Directors, effective immediately.

On behalf of the entire New Jersey School Boards Association, I want to express our sincere gratitude for her outstanding service and dedication to our organization and to school boards across the state. We wish her all the best in the future.

In light of this change, the Nominating Committee will convene to determine the next steps and outline the application process for a candidate to be brought before the November Delegate Assembly. More information regarding this process will be shared as it becomes available. In accordance with our bylaws, I will assume the duties of Vice President for Legislation/Resolutions until the special election takes place in November.

For the (May 31) Legislative Committee meeting, Dr. Timothy Purnell (was) appointed as Chair pro tem due to Vice President Jackson’s resignation.

Thank you for your continued commitment to the students and communities we serve. I eagerly anticipate a productive and collaborative two years ahead.

Sincerely,

Tammeisha D. Smith, President
New Jersey School Boards Association
