The New Jersey School Boards Association next week will release a major report, Building a Foundation for Hope, which resulted from a year-long study by its Task Force on Mental Health Services in the Public Schools. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 15 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Highland Park High School, 102 North 5th Avenue, Highland Park, N.J. 08904 (directions).

The report provides over 70 recommendations for local school districts and state and federal agencies, as well as guidance and resources for boards of education, school administrators and other public school leaders, educators, families and their communities. Subjects include social-emotional learning, character development, equity, suicide prevention, and community outreach.

In addition, the report addresses effective programs and best practices currently in place in the state’s public schools, as well as the insights of recognized experts in school psychology, school climate and student health and wellness.
