TRENTON, September 25, 2019 – The New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) is hosting regional briefings for school board candidates on Wednesday, October 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. Approximately 1,500 local board of education positions will be on the ballot statewide during the November 5 General Election.

The candidate briefings will address the structure and responsibilities of local school boards in New Jersey. Participants will receive information on the following topics:

  • The role of the board member;
  • Legal requirements, including criminal background checks and financial disclosures;
  • The board as a policy-making body;
  • Training requirements;
  • Ethical considerations to avoid conflicts of interest;
  • Resources available to board members.
