In accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act, notice is hereby provided of a meeting of the New Jersey School Boards Association Resolutions Subcommittee. The meeting will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 9 a.m. at New Jersey School Boards Association headquarters, 413 West State Street, Trenton. The meeting is open to the public. The agenda, to the extent known at this time, will include review and action on seven resolutions which will come before the annual Delegate Assembly on May 20, 2017. The resolutions that will be considered by the subcommittee are listed below, including the sponsor and the topic.
Notice is also provided that the Emergency Resolutions Subcommittee may be required to meet on May 15 if any resolutions are received by the association to be considered as emergency resolutions, prior to the cutoff date of May 10, for the Delegate Assembly agenda.
The resolutions to be considered are as follows:
East Greenwich (Gloucester)
|Requests that the governor call a special session of the Legislature to enact comprehensive school funding reform legislation|
|Edison (Middlesex)||Proposes new policy language stating that NJSBA believes that every public school district in New Jersey should receive a fair and equitable amount of state aid to help support public education and relieve the local taxpayer of the burden of funding such a large portion of the public schools.|
|Edison (Middlesex)||Proposes new policy language stating that NJSBA believes that New Jersey charter schools, in high-quality suburban school districts, erode the operations of public education by draining badly-needed financial resources.|
|Montclair (Essex)||Proposes a moratorium on new charter schools until the Legislature and governor do a comprehensive review of the processes by which charter schools are approved.|
|Waterford (Camden)||Proposes that N.J.S.A. 18A:7B-12 should be amended by the Legislature to allow for outside placement contracts to be made directly between the private school and the parent’s district of residence, thereby leaving out the district where the foster home or resource home is located from being involved.|
|Waterford (Camden)||Proposes that N.J.S.A. 18A:17-24.3 should be amended by the Legislature to allow for a shared superintendent for no minimum time period and to be done on an as-needed basis.|
|Bloomfield (Essex)||Proposes that NJSBA support a residency verification process for board of education candidates.|
