Due to overwhelming feedback, the STEAM Tank Challenge submission deadline has been extended to Jan. 24, 2020. The STEAM Tank Challenge, created and sponsored by NJSBA and the U.S. Army, encourages and motivates students to learn about STEAM – science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. The competition challenges students to invent something new, modify an existing product, or identify a situation or problem that needs resolution.
The program is more than just a competition. The NJSBA STEAM Tank program provides personal support and guidance through training and consultation, to help inspire students to become the next generation of entrepreneurs, inventors, scientists, artists, and engineers.
In 2019, this popular program attracted more than 500 teams from across the state, producing 98 finalists in three categories: elementary school, middle school, and high school.
Regional Competitions STEAM Tank consists of three regional challenges for three grade levels – elementary, middle and high school. These selected teams pitch their ideas to the judges in the designated regional locations. Winners of the regionals will advance to compete at the STEAM Tank finals held at the NJSBA’s Workshop Conference at the Atlantic City Convention Center. Regional dates and locations will be announced at a later date.
Rules Teams presenting must consist of at least two, but no more than five, students and at least one educator. Each team is allowed to present only one idea. The final judging of the STEAM Tank Challenge submissions will take place at the NJSBA/NJASA/NJASBO Workshop on October 20 & 21, 2020. The award ceremony will take place at the New Jersey Education Association’s Convention in November 2020.
