Public speaking, community engagement and social media will be the focus of NJSBA’s annual Communications Forum on Friday, April 3.
- Public Speaking for Board Members – Whether the situation involves a meeting, a school district event, or a conversation with colleagues, the ability to speak clearly, effectively and accurately is a critical skill for a board member. Led by noted educator Dr. Tracey Severns, this interactive session will show participants how to speak with confidence extemporaneously, from prepared remarks, and during formal presentations.
- The Board’s Role in Community Engagement – Community engagement is a year-round process and critical to the school board’s leadership role. NJSBA’s field services staff will address how the board of education can work toward school improvement in concert with parents, staff, the business sector, and the community at large.
- Social Media: Pitfalls and Propriety: A Legal Perspective – School law experts will address the legal use of social media – and the more complex question of what is advisable for board members.
The NJSBA School Communications Forum will take place on Friday, April 3, from 9 a.m. (registration at 8:30) to 1 p.m. at Mercer County Technical Schools Sypek Center near I-295 in Pennington.
