On May 28, new state aid figures for the 2020-2021 school year were released by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE).

The new aid numbers reflect the recent announcement by the state treasurer of a proposed $336 million reduction in state education aid. The overall amount of state aid to education will remain essentially flat for the 2020-2021 school year. In general, however, individual district state aid allotments will either increase or decrease over the current-year amounts as a result of the S-2 funding formula.

Districts that saw reductions in funding for 2020-2021 under the original aid figures announced in February will not experience further reductions. Other districts will receive increases in state aid, but those will be smaller than the figures released in February.

The NJSBA will continue to monitor the fiscal impact of the pandemic on state aid to education.
