On Friday, April 5, at the Southard School in Howell Township, the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) will host Best Practices in Urban Education.
The conference is scheduled to run from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m., with continental breakfast and registration starting at 8:30 a.m. This program offers 4 Board Member Academy credits.
Sometimes, the best professional development comes when practitioners talk directly to each other. The urban boards best practices conference will offer an opportunity for school leaders to talk with their peers about their ideas and experiences as leaders in urban education.
The program will feature a number of breakout sessions including but not limited to:
- Successful programs in districts with a high number of high-needs students
- Virtual learning
- Computer science
- Mindfulness
- Community communication
Additionally, an interactive panel discussion will delve into various topics that districts struggle with including: changing district demographics, recruiting teachers, and professional development for teachers. The program will include a special performance by Plainfield Academy for the Arts and Advanced Studies.
Cost/Registration Information The cost is $99 per person. Registration of school board members and other district staff that have been reported to the NJSBA through completion of the district census form should be completed online, but only by the school business administrator, who must attach a scanned copy of the purchase order with the registration.
For questions regarding this program, please email Ray Pinney, NJSBA’s director of member engagement.
