NJSBA is offering four professional development workshops to help support schools in their efforts to implement sustainable practices that will lower operating costs and create healthier learning environments for students and staff. All of the topics are tied directly to categories within the Sustainable Jersey for Schools program.
Each program will offer two NJSBA Board Member Academy credits, three Certified Educational Facilities Manager (CEFM) Credits, and one point toward Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification.
The first session will focus on school grounds and will take place on Friday, April 29, from 9 a.m. to noon (registration at 8:30 a.m.) at NJSBA headquarters at 413 West State Street, Trenton
If school grounds are not controlled properly, unsustainable actions can have a profound negative impact on the water quality in local waterways, and on wildlife and plants. Participants in this workshop will learn about the proactive steps that can be taken to protect the valuable ecosystems surrounding schools. The focus will be on planning for biodiversity projects and conducting an audit, as well as assessing green infrastructure, as demonstrated by a district as it relates to the Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification program. There will be an exercise in goal setting and determining immediate next steps toward achieving such goals.
Registration Information Member registration may be completed online, but only by the school business administrator who must attach a scanned copy of the purchase order with the registration. School board members and other district staff that have previously been reported to NJSBA in the district census form may attend.
Additional district staff members are welcome to register online through Eventbrite using a credit card. (Staff should check with the school business administrator as to local district policy regarding reimbursement.)
Cost The registration fee for members is $75 per person and includes a continental breakfast.
