Cliffside Park baseball coach Ben Luderer, 30, died suddenly on March 30 from complications related to the coronavirus, according to published reports. He is believed to be one of the first educators in the nation known to have died from the virus.

Luderer was the starting catcher for the 2008 Don Bosco Prep baseball team that finished 33-0 and was crowned as national champions by multiple news organizations.

Cliffside Park superintendent Michael Romagnino informed members of the district Monday morning.

“He is irreplaceable,” Cliffside Park athletic director David Porfido told northjersey.com Monday morning. “This should be a wake-up call for everyone.” To read the northjersey.com story, go here.
