Margaret Angeli, a member and former president of the Teaneck Board of Education for more than 30 years, died peacefully at home on March 19 after experiencing a period of declining health due to diabetes-related issues. She was 80.
She first joined the board in 1979. In 2009 she earned the designation of Master Board Member from the NJSBA’s Board Member Academy. She retired from her board in 2011, and received the district’s Board Member Service Award. The Margaret Angeli Staff Development Room was named in her honor.
She was a graduate of Academy of the Holy Angels in New Jersey, and Cabrini College in Pennsylvania, where she received a bachelor’s degree in English. She was the wife of Rudolph E. Angeli M.D., and mother to Karen (Ed), Chrissy, Edward (Kelly), Rudi, Peter (Sanja), and Mary. She had 13 grandchildren, was the daughter of the Mary Scanlan, sister of Greta Kiernan (Spier) and the late Peter Spier, and had several nieces and nephews.
Margaret Angeli was devoted to public education and a champion of students with special needs. A memorial scholarship has been set up through the Teaneck Community Scholarship Fund.
