The New Jersey School Boards Association will host its second annual School Security and Student Safety Conference on Friday, June 2, offering security strategies and information on resources and services to help keep schools and students safe. The conference will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (registration begins at 8:30 a.m.) at the Conference Center at Mercer, 1200 Old Trenton Rd., West Windsor, N.J. 08550.
Panel Discussion The day will include a panel discussion on cybersecurity. Panelists will discuss and answer questions that will enable districts to safely move forward with engaging new technologies in the classroom. Panelists include Brandon Pugh, president, Burlington County School Boards Association and vice president of the Moorestown Board of Education; Shawn Hopkins, chief technology officer, Jefferson Township, and president of NJ Association of Government IT leaders; Walter F. Rant, assistant director of the Cybersecurity Center at Kean University; Philip Frigm, a supervisory special agent within the FBI’s Newark Division; John Leo, Jr., FBI supervisory special agent managing computer network intrusion; and Caroline Conboy, fund administrator, Statewide Insurance Fund.
The conference will include a keynote address by Kimberley Harrington, acting commissioner of education; representatives from the FBI, including a special agent in charge; breakout sessions; and a networking lunch, which will offer an opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions on hot topics in school security.

Cost/Registration Information The cost is $99 per person. Registration of school board members and other district staff that have been reported to NJSBA through the completion of the district census form may be completed online, but only by the school business administrator, who must attach a scanned copy of the purchase order with the registration.
Professional Development The program offers 4 Board Member Academy credits, and a number of breakout sessions and the panel discussion have been approved to receive Qualified Purchasing Agent (QPA) credit hours by the Department of Community Affairs.
Non-Member Registration Additional district staff members are welcome to register online through Eventbrite using a credit card. (Staff should check with their district’s school business administrator as to local district policy regarding reimbursement.)

In addition to school board members, business administrators, superintendents, IT directors, human resource professionals, and all district staff members who play a role in school safety including, but not limited to, teachers, school resource officers, school security guards, facilities managers and parents.
