Lisa Freschi recently learned how to pull strings. Not necessarily as the vice-president of the Verona Board of Education, but as a volunteer maneuvering a giant Ronald McDonald balloon through the streets of New York City for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.
Despite the demands of the volunteer position, which included training at MetLife Stadium in September, a 4:30 a.m. start Thanksgiving morning, and a nearly three-mile walk maneuvering a 700-pound balloon through the streets of New York, Freschi says she loves guiding the balloon with her husband and friends, and will be doing it “until I can’t walk anymore.”
