The Foundations for Success programs equip board members with the skills they need to deal with issues they face at the board table.

These highly interactive and informative programs offer members a convenient way to fulfill the Governance II, Governance III, and Governance IV training requirements of the School District Accountability Act. Board members who do not need to complete their mandated training for the 2019 calendar year are still welcome to come to the meeting to learn more about a topic of their choosing. Completion of Fundamentals of School Finance satisfies the Governance II requirement. Completion of Board Actions that Impact Student Achievement satisfies the Governance III requirement. Completion of Advancement in School Law satisfies the Governance IV requirement. Program descriptions follow.

Fundamentals of School Finance With resources limited, it is imperative that school board members have an understanding of school finance – where their revenue comes from, how aid is calculated, the budget process and the impact of bargaining unit contracts on the overall budget.

Board Actions that Impact Student Achievement In recent years, New Jersey has revamped state standards and state standardized testing to increase student achievement. Learn ways the board and superintendent can work together to keep the district focused on student achievement and prepare students for their future.

Advancements in School Law Whether it is a new legal ruling, clarification of an existing law, or a new ethics advisory opinion, school board members should be aware of the changes in the law that affect the board of education’s operations.
