The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) is hosting regional information sessions to introduce the new NJDOE Instructional Units in Math and English Language Arts (ELA). The sessions will also explain the Connected Action Roadmap (CAR) process, which was used to analyze the standards, translate them into clear, specific learning goals and place them into suggested units of study.
Details of the sessions and registration information are below.
The CAR process is endorsed by the Partnership for Collaborative Professional Learning, which is composed of the state’s major education groups, including the NJDOE, the New Jersey School Boards Association, New Jersey Education Association, New Jersey Association of School Administrators, New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association, New Jersey Association of School Business Officials, and others. The process involves working collaboratively to strengthen teaching and learning in the state’s public schools, helping educators connect standards-aligned curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional learning to a school culture that promotes ongoing reflection on, and growth in, student learning.
In developing the NJDOE Instructional Units in Math and ELA, teams of educators worked with the NJDOE Office of Standards and Assessment staff over several months. The information sessions will include a morning session that will provide an overview of the CAR framework. The afternoon working session will allow districts to engage in planning how to use the instructional units.
Registration The links below can be used to register for any of the half-day sessions. NJDOE invites a team (e.g. central office administration, school leader, and teacher leaders) from districts to attend one of the meetings. Team members who have already attended a CAR framework meeting over the past year may wish to only attend the afternoon working session. Each team member must register individually.
