The current issue of School Leader magazine features an article on “Building a Foundation for Hope,” the final report of NJSBA’s Task Force on Mental Health Services in the Public Schools.  The article discusses the current crisis in student mental health, how some school districts are coping with the situation, and offers suggestions of action steps that districts can take to support and safeguard their students.

The report will also be discussed at a program to be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Highland Park High School in Highland Park, as well as in a special session at Workshop on Wednesday Oct. 23 from 9:30 -10:30 a.m.

School Leader magazine also has a special section on board of education leadership, with articles by NJSBA field service representatives Jesse Adams, Kathleen Helewa and Theresa Lewis.  Articles in the section include “Board Presidents: Are You Leading or Managing;” a story on best practices for filling board vacancies; and one on changing the culture of a dysfunctional board.

School Leader magazine is published six times a year, and is mailed to all local board of education members.  It is also on the NJSBA website here.
