The collective wisdom of New Jersey’s public school districts is a powerful force.
Sharing that wisdom is the goal behind one of NJSBA’s newest initiatives, A+ Ideas, Programs and Practices, an online directory of good ideas of successful, creative programs and practices in public school classrooms and district offices.
The A+ website is an information center and library of best practices, where school leaders and educators share outstanding efforts to advance student achievement and ensure the soundness of district operations. It’s a place where school board members, administrators and other educators can learn from the success of their colleagues throughout the state.
The directory, available at www.njsba.org/a-plus spotlights effective local school district efforts in fields such as Curriculum/Student Achievement; STEM Education/Technology; District Governance/Board Leadership; School Climate; Shared Services; Facilities and Financial Operations; Special Education; Sustainable Practices; and Community Relations. Some of the ideas have already received awards and recognition, while others are only now receiving attention and exposure.
Each entry includes a descriptive summary, contact information and, often, website addresses for further information. The directory will be expanded throughout the year.
When I was reading the entries in the A+ website, I found that several programs fit my criteria for worthwhile ideas: they triggered the same thought: “That’s a great idea. Why didn’t I think of that?” I think you will have a similar reaction.
We urge school board members, superintendents, school business administrators, charter school leaders, curriculum supervisors, teachers and other educators to submit their best practices for consideration. It’s a wonderful way to spotlight the terrific things your school district is doing, as well as share those practices with your counterparts at other districts. Information should be submitted by completing a brief survey, located online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/A-Plus-Ideas.
The A+ website shows the breadth of exciting programs taking place in New Jersey’s public school classrooms and school districts every day. We look forward to the participation of all New Jersey school districts in this exciting project.
