Bruce R. Young was elected vice president for county activities of the New Jersey School Boards Association during the organization’s Delegate Assembly on May 18, 2019.

He will serve a two-year term in the volunteer position.

Currently a member of the Carlstadt-East Rutherford Regional High School Board of Education, Young has approximately 30 years of school board service. He was initially elected to the Carlstadt Borough Board of Education in 1990 and was instrumental in efforts to pass a referendum for a new elementary school.

While on the Carlstadt-East Rutherford board, he was involved in the acquisition of funding from the Federal Aviation Commission and Port Authority for soundproofing Becton Regional High School.

He has served as a local school board president, as president and vice president of the Bergen County School Boards Association, and as the county’s alternate representative to the NJSBA Board of Directors.

Young is New Jersey’s 2017-2018 School Board Member of the Year, an award presented by NJSBA and based on the recommendation of an independent, out-of-state judging panel.

He currently serves as a deputy zoning official in Carlstadt and has been a member of the community’s VFW and American Legion since 1975.
