What’s Changed in School Security — and What Hasn’t
Join us for a conversation designed to help school leaders cut through the noise around modern security solutions. This practical session focuses on how expectations, tools, and accountability have evolved—while the core principles of awareness, verification, response, and documentation remain the same.
A Holistic Approach to School Safety
Harnessing AI and Cybersecurity for K-12 Districts in New Jersey
Discover how AI can be securely implemented within your district, enhancing the learning experience while fortifying digital safety. We will explore the latest cybersecurity threats faced by schools, and how AI technologies can counter these risks, ensuring a safer, smarter digital future for our students. Whether you’re an IT leader, school administrator, or educator, this webinar will equip you with the knowledge and strategies to make informed decisions about AI adoption and cybersecurity measures in your district.
Cybersecurity: The Whole of State / Collective Defense Approach
Michael Geraghty, the State of New Jersey’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Director of the NJ Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell (NJCCIC) will discuss how expecting schools to defend against criminal syndicates, who are able to launch cyberattacks from anywhere in the world day or night, is unrealistic. A more cost-effective and resilient approach is to adopt a collective defense model, allowing for collaboration on detection and sharing intelligence.
5 Things ALL Districts Must Be Doing to Prevent a Cyberattack
Brian Lau and Michael Esolda (former IT Director of Woodbridge) from D2 Cybersecurity discuss why the education sector is the highest “at-risk” target for cyber security attacks and what you can do as a board member to secure your student’s data and district’s operational maintainability. Discover the five things that make your district more secure, in an affordable and scalable way, that align with insurance policies requirements coming in your next renewal. Leave with questions to ask your IT staff on what they are doing to ensure your school is prepared.
Creating a Safer School in Today’s Environment
Creating a safer school environment is a top priority in today’s world. To achieve this, schools can implement a comprehensive visitor management system using Kokomo24/7’s system that streamlines the sign-in and out process and verifies guardianship during student sign-outs.
Anonymous reporting can be used to report suspicious activity without fear of retaliation. This system allows students to report anonymously and provides a way for administrators to track and manage reported incidents.
The Kokomo24/7 case management system can be used to track and manage reported incidents. It provides a centralized platform for reporting, tracking, and managing incidents, as well as a way to communicate with students, staff, and parents.
By implementing these measures, schools can create a safer environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Final Report from the NJSBA Firearms Safety Task Force: Processes, Programs and Practices for Safety in School, Home and Community
In February 2023, the NJSBA’s Firearms Safety Task Force published a detailed report after reviewing research on firearm deaths and injuries; the impact of children’s exposure to violence; effective strategies to protect children from accidental injury; safe gun storage, handling and use; and school- and community-based partnerships that address students’ mental and emotional health, and help them overcome trauma and defuse conflict. The report offers local boards recommendations and suggested actions that reflect strategies endorsed by child welfare organizations, gun-owner groups, the medical community, experts in public health, education organizations and other advocates.
Cybersecurity – It is EVERYONE’s problem now.
The education sector is the highest “at-risk” target for cyber security attacks leading to increases in data breaches and disruptions, costing schools time and money. Many of these incidents are preventable and avoidable but it takes leadership to plan and work together to achieve securing your school districts’ network and invaluable data. Board of education officials, superintendents, principals, IT departments and business administrators all need to be on the same page to implement today’s cybersecurity defenses which involves both human and technology resources. Join Brian Lau, Director of D2 Cybersecurity on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. for a timely webinar focused on cybersecurity.
School Safety: The Role of the Student Voice
If you want a healthy school climate, you must listen to students. Has your district thought about how it will welcome student board representatives, now required by law (N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1.3)? Have you determined how they will be selected, what they will do, and when to include them in discussions? Join superintendents and board members from districts who currently support student representatives to the school board to learn how these students can serve a vital role on your school safety team.
