On Wednesday, May 20, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) announced that its draft 2026 New Jersey Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards (NJPTLS) are currently open for public comment. The comment window closes on July 31, 2026, at 4 p.m. 

During this formal period, written feedback is invited from: 

  • Educators and administrators; 
  • School districts and early childhood providers; 
  • Parents and families; 
  • Advocacy organizations; and 
  • Members of the general public. 

The proposed revised Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards can be found on the State Board of Education’s webpage (official version and unofficial version). Comments may be emailed to NJPTLSreview@doe.nj.gov.  

Curriculum Alignment 

Following adoption of the 2026 NJPTLS, the NJDOE will review comprehensive curricula for alignment in early 2027. All curricula, including current versions identified as aligned to the 2014 NJPTLS, will be subject to review.
