Individual Certification Programs
NJSBA offers a variety of certification programs for board members who want to take their training to a higher level.
Board Certification Programs
NJSBA’s Board Member Academy offers full-board certifications for school boards that commit to working together to improve their skills and effectiveness.
Please review NJSBA’s information on registration, fees and cancellations.
Earning Academy Credits
Individual board members can earn Board Member Academy (BMA) credits for each program completed, and these credits can be applied toward BMA certification programs. Credits are awarded depending on the number of hours of training. Typically a program that is 2.5 to 3 hours is awarded one credit; longer programs carry more credit. NJSBA keeps a permanent transcript of each member’s credits.
County Association Programs
Programs conducted by the county school boards associations carry BMA credit for participants, typically 1 credit for the educational portion of the county program.
Special topic and regional programs carry BMA credit for participants, approximately 0.5 credits for every 1.5 hours and 1 credit for every 2.5 to 3 hours of training.
Programs designed for joint board member/administrator training will earn each board member 1 credit for each 2.5 to 3 hours of training. If the number of board members required under board certification criteria area are present, the board will also earn 1 credit per 3 hours of training toward board certification.
