Passaic County Technical-Vocational Schools recognized the service of Albert A. Alexander, a former board of education member and board president, with the naming of the PCTVS softball field in his honor.
A brief pregame ceremony was held prior to the start of the Lady Bulldogs’ 2022 home opener April 4 against the Lady Knights of John F. Kennedy High School in Paterson. The formal dedication was conducted by Superintendent John Maiello and Board President Michael Coscia.
Alexander, who retired from the board in November 2021, is known for his many years of service on the PCTVS Board of Education, spending 25 years as president. In addition, as a founding member of the PCTVS Education Foundation, he has helped raise over $1.5 million for student scholarships and educational grants through his hard work and dedication.
Over his 27-year plus years of service, PCTVS saw major campus expansions, including the construction of the ultra-modern Athletic Center, which houses a gym, indoor running track and Olympic size pool; a new Automotive Technology Building capable of every type of auto repair as well as certified vehicle inspections; and a STEM Academy high school housing over 1,200 students and offering career pathways in computer science, engineering and biomedical life sciences.
When asked about his time at PCTVS, Alexander said, “As a lifelong resident of Passaic County, I am proud to have been part of the PCTVS Board of Education and PCTI (Passaic County Technical Institute) Education Foundation. These kids are incredible and deserve every opportunity for success. Watching them learn and grow and prosper is the biggest reward.”
The ceremony was well attended by the colleagues, family and friends of Alexander, who expressed his gratitude before throwing out the first pitch of the 2022 Lady Bulldogs’ Softball season.
The field will be affectionately known as the Bulldogs’ “AAA” athletic complex and will host varsity softball in the spring and soccer in the fall. The district recently added softball dugouts to Albert A. Alexander Field and will install a softball scoreboard in the summer of 2022.
