The winter 2023 issue of School Leader is headed to mailboxes and already available to read online.
The quarterly magazine, which focuses on trends and issues of interest to boards of education, school administrators and other education leaders, includes a cover story on how local boards can help student representatives succeed.
The article notes that as a result of legislation Gov. Phil Murphy signed in January 2022, each board is now required to include at least one student representative. Former student representatives as well as board members share their insights on how to take advantage of student input while helping students get the most out of their board service.
Irene LeFebvre, president of the New Jersey School Boards Association, shares words of wisdom about how board members can help parents in her President’s Message. In his Executive Word column, Dr. Timothy Purnell, the Association’s executive director, highlights the budgetary challenges schools are facing amid rampant inflation – as well as how NJSBA continues to advocate for schools.
Brandon Pugh, the Association’s former vice president for legislation/resolutions and a senior fellow on the R Street Institute’s Cybersecurity and Emerging Threats Team, explores what districts can do to protect themselves from cybersecurity threats.
