NJSBA Officer Candidacy: Application and Guidelines
Positions that will be open are the presidency and three vice presidencies. The election will take place on May 13, 2023, at the NJSBA Delegate Assembly. All offices are two-year terms, May 2023-May 2025.
Senate Sends Information Literacy Standards Bill to Governor’s Desk, Approves Various Education Measures
On Nov. 21, the New Jersey Senate held a voting session that gave final legislative approval to S-588/A-4169, a bill requiring the State Board of Education to adopt academic standards in information literacy, among other actions.
NJSBA Thanks Governor for Commitment to Student Mental Health Programs
The governor announced in a Nov. 16 news release that the New Jersey Department of Children and Families would issue a request for proposals to create the new NJ4S program in time for the 2023-2024 academic year, while pledging to provide funding to continue the SBYSP through fiscal year 2024.

New Board Members Must Complete Criminal Background Checks
State law requires that school board members for public school districts, including charter schools, undergo criminal background checks within 30 days of election or appointment. Incumbent school board members who were reelected Nov. 8 do not have to undergo criminal background checks.
