The New Jersey State Board of Education approved a proposal pertaining to equality and equity in education at its March 1, 2023, meeting, according to an advisory.

The proposal, which can be viewed on the New Jersey Department of Education’s Administrative Code webpage, includes:

  • Readoption with amendments of N.J.A.C. 6A:7, Managing for Equality and Equity in Education, which sets forth rules governing equality and equity in educational programs to guarantee each student equal access to all educational programs, services and benefits of their school district. The chapter also provides an objective basis for evaluating a school district’s progress toward equity in educational programs and provides the basis for district boards of education to identify areas in which technical assistance may be needed.

Public testimony will be held on May 3, 2023. Administrators and members of the public may send written comments concerning the proposal by June 2, 2023, via the NJDOE’s Proposed Rules webpage, to chapter7@doe.nj.gov, or via postal mail to:
