The application to seek reimbursement for providing additional or compensatory special education and related services for students with disabilities who were 21 as of July 1, 2023, is now available on the New Jersey Department of Education’s Homeroom webpage, according to an advisory from the NJDOE.

When completing the application, local educational agencies will, for each student with disabilities receiving special education and related services under this program, estimate the total costs to be incurred in the 2023-2024 school year for providing these services. Applications will be accepted through Jan. 17, 2024, and then NJDOE will reimburse 50% of the approved costs in January 2024.

LEAs must submit final applications for 2023-2024 costs in June 2024. Final applications will include final costs for 2023-2024 and reflect adjustments to estimated costs submitted in January as necessary. NJDOE will reimburse any remaining balance before the end of July 2024. For additional information, please refer to the NJDOE December 2021 and April 2022 broadcast memos.

Awards for providing additional or compensatory special education and related services must be recorded in the special revenue fund account 20-4537, line number 827. Expenses must be recorded in the program code 20-486-xxx-xxx, in the line number 88712.
