The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Part B regulations, § 300.600(a)(2), require states to make determinations annually regarding the performance of each local education agency, using the following categories: meets requirements, needs assistance, needs intervention and needs substantial intervention (§ 300.603(b)(1)), the New Jersey Department of Education noted in a recent advisory.

Anticipating the release of determinations, as part of the Local Special Education Profiles on June 1 of each year, the NJDOE’s Office of Special Education will host a series of webinars for school district special education leadership, including directors of special services, supervisors of special education and assistant superintendents responsible for special education. Each training will provide school district special education administrators with an overview of determination requirements, the criteria used and differentiated support offered to LEAs following the release.
