David B. Blake died Feb. 27 at his Morris Plains home with his family by his side. He was 85 years old.

He is survived by his loving wife Jill; his devoted daughter, Caroline Blake; and his cherished grandchildren, Matthew and Mackenzie Blake Siegel. He is also survived by his three sisters, Barbara Ann Wass, Doris Lasher and Arlene O’Connor; his sister-in-law, Joan Dempsey; and many nieces and nephews.

Blake earned his Bachelor of Science in business management and a Master of Arts in education administration at Seton Hall University. He was a certified school business administrator and qualified purchasing agent.

His career began with the Livingston Board of Education in 1976. He went on to serve as board secretary and as the business administrator for boards of education at Morris Hills Regional, Bogota, and Elmwood Park. After he retired, he also served as interim business administrator in Boonton Township, Mine Hill Township, Riverdale and Harding Township before ending his career at Sussex County Technical School in June 2016.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as an usher for 40 years at St. Virgil’s in Morris Plains. He was known as a kind and gentle man who loved his family with all his heart. He most enjoyed watching his daughter and grandchildren participate in their school athletics. He could always be found on the sidelines at Mackenzie’s volleyball games at St. Elizabeth’s Academy and at Seton Hall Prep to watch Matthew play football.
