Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and the Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey have aligned with the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association this year to bring a town hall series to schools, featuring former New York Jets and Rutgers standout Ray Lucas.

Lucas, an athlete who excelled at Harrison High School, was the quarterback at Rutgers from 1992 to 1995. He went on to play seven seasons in the NFL with the Patriots, Jets and Dolphins. He has been candid about the toll the sport took on him, including how it led to him becoming dependent on prescription opioids. Today, Lucas is the executive director of the Harrison Housing Authority and head coach at his alma mater, Harrison High School.

The town halls featuring Lucas will focus on how to prevent student athletes from falling victim to opioid abuse and how to help them when needed.

Those interested are invited to attend “A Conversation about Athletes and Opioids” featuring Lucas, which will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Jersey Mike’s Arena on the campus of Rutgers University.

School contacts are invited to register here.
