Bernadette Dalesandro, the president of the Netcong Board of Education and also the president of the Morris County School Boards Association, is highlighted in this video as the New Jersey School Boards Association’s 2023-2024 School Board Member of the Year.

A Marine Corps veteran who served her country for 25 years, Dalesandro was instrumental in helping her district pass a referendum and has worked tirelessly to promote student achievement for more than 25 years.

“Bernadette, we salute your service, your passion to public education and your willingness to help other board members,” Dr. Karen Cortellino, president of NJSBA, said when presenting Dalesandro with the award.

Dalesandro was chosen as the winner by an independent out-of-state panel, which reviewed nominations and identified an individual who stands out for their significant contributions to public education and who exemplifies leadership in the field of education. The winner must demonstrate a strong commitment to the children of New Jersey and to their own personal and professional development as a board member. They must also be actively involved with school governance at the local, county and state levels.

Dalesandro has always been “a true advocate” for students and deserves recognition for her service and leadership, according to Timothy Purnell, executive director and CEO of NJSBA.
