The New Jersey Department of Education has established guidelines for climate change education, aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, which aim to foster climate literacy, encourage sustainable practices and empower students to become informed and responsible citizens.

In a recent advisory, the NJDOE shared climate change education companion documents aligned to the NJSLS in English language arts and mathematics.

These documents promote an interdisciplinary approach to implementing the 2020 climate change-related performance expectations. Educators are encouraged to incorporate climate-related topics into existing lesson plans and curriculum as appropriate.

Ensuring New Jersey students are well-informed and equipped to make sound decisions regarding climate change is a shared responsibility; the NJDOE looks forward to partnering with educators in the implementation of climate change education.
