The New Milford Board of Education has become a Certified Board of Education, a designation awarded by the New Jersey School Boards Association.

The board was honored with a plaque at the Bergen County School Boards Association’s Oct. 3, 2023, meeting at Biagio’s Ristorante in Paramus.

New Milford is a model of consistency with its approach to training, working with NJSBA each summer to discuss board member ethics, goal setting and conducting its annual board self-evaluation. In addition, it takes advantage of multiple opportunities to explore other topics like the roles and responsibilities of board members.

New Milford has also embraced the approach of getting early training for new board members, working with NJSBA to get fundamental concepts established early on, in small groups, to ensure each member has the tools to contribute to the board’s work.
