The New Jersey School Boards Association encourages students to submit entries to the Garden State Film Festival’s student submission category, “New Jersey Hometown Documentary Short.”

This category is reserved for works that are written, directed and shot by New Jersey high school students. Films must focus on some aspect of their hometown, including topics like profiles of interesting persons, places, time periods or subjects related to the arts. This film submission category has been created to encourage young filmmakers’ creativity while instilling a sense of pride in their hometowns and state.

Students are encouraged to submit entries either on their own or through their schools by Jan. 6, 2022, for the 2022 Garden State Film Festival. The Garden State Film Festival’s professional jury will select winning films in various categories.

The event takes place March 23-27, 2022, in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and consists of a gala ceremony and reception and ends with a black-tie preferred Awards Banquet where the “Best” in various categories of films and celebrity honorees are recognized.

In addition to the screenings, panel discussions will unite celebrity filmmakers with aspiring screenwriters, directors and actors. Representatives from respected film distribution companies will be invited to attend, as the festival will provide access to new talent and content available for worldwide distribution.
