Less than two weeks remains for board of education candidates running in the November election to file nominating petitions with their county clerk. The deadline is 4 p.m., July 25.

July 28 is the last day to amend a defective petition. A candidate may amend the petition to remedy the defect at any time before the date but generally may not add signatures. The candidate may add his or her own signature if necessary to provide verification of the signatures on the petition but only if the petition already contains 10 valid signatures.

July 29 is the deadline for filing objections to nomination petitions for school election candidates with the county clerk.

Those who decide to seek office are encouraged to use the New Jersey School Boards Association’s Candidate Kit as a resource. It provides downloadable PDFs as well as links to important websites for anyone considering running for their local school board.

Candidates are also encouraged to listen to a recorded online radio broadcast, “What Board Members Need to Know When They’re Elected.”

Candidates can find a multitude of additional resources at NJSBA’s Candidate Kit.
