First elected in 2012, Charles has donated his time in various ways such as a small group leader at NJSBA’s New Board Member Orientation Weekend.
From 2021 to 2025, he served as president of the Passaic County School Boards Association, where he was vice president from 2017-2021. He has taken pride in playing a leading role in starting and expanding the Passaic County’s SBA’s Unsung Heroes program.
In 2024, he was named New Jersey SBA Board Member of the Year.
He has enjoyed the challenges of working at the county and state levels to help students and school districts throughout the state. He has been a member of the NJSBA Legislative Committee since 2017 to the present, as well as a past member of the Resolution Subcommittee, which he said was one more way for him to network with other stakeholders to engage in advocacy.
