About UC TEAMS

The Union County T.E.A.M.S. (Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics, and Science) Charter School is an innovative, K–12 public charter school in Plainfield, Union County, New Jersey. UC TEAMS’ learning laboratory model uses the built environment as a vehicle for academic achievement, community engagement, and real-world preparation. With a motto of ‘We Are Community Builders,’ the school established itself as a trusted community institution dedicated to helping all students discover their potential, develop leadership, and succeed in post-secondary education and beyond.

The Opportunity

UC TEAMS is conducting a search for a visionary, compassionate, and experienced Executive Director to lead the school into its next chapter. The Executive Director serves as the chief executive of the school — equivalent to a school district superintendent — providing leadership across all academic, operational, financial, and community dimensions of the organization. This is a rare opportunity to lead a purpose-driven school with deep community roots and a clear mission-centered identity.

Our next Executive Director must be someone who leads with heart, listens before acting, and inspires confidence through presence, honesty, and follow-through. The school community seeks a leader who will join the UC TEAMS family with humility and a genuine commitment to its students, staff, and community.

Qualifications

Required:

• Advanced degree in education, educational leadership, or related field (Ed.D. or equivalent preferred)
• Minimum of five years of experience in educational leadership, including at the school-wide or organizational executive level
• Demonstrated instructional leadership background, including classroom or school-based experience
• Track record of building and sustaining a positive, collaborative school culture
• Proven ability to communicate transparently and build trust across diverse stakeholder groups
• Experience managing budgets, staffing, and organizational operations

Preferred:

• Experience leading a charter school or similar independent/autonomous school model
• Familiarity with K–12 program development, including both elementary/middle and high school settings
• Background in community-based or community-engaged education models
• Understanding of New Jersey charter school law and compliance requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Set and execute a compelling, data-informed strategic vision for UC TEAMS
• Recruit, retain, lead, mentor, and support a dedicated team of educators and administrators
• Champion academic excellence, instructional quality, and student-centered outcomes across all grade levels
• Build and sustain meaningful relationships with students, families, staff, and the broader Union County community
• Manage the school’s fiscal health and operational systems with transparency and accountability
• Represent UC TEAMS to the Board of Trustees, funders, partner organizations, and public stakeholders
• Cultivate a school culture rooted in the UC TEAMS values of community, compassion, and high expectations

Compensation
