Supervisor of English Language Arts (ELA), English as a Second Language (ESL), and World Languages (WL)
REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum & Instruction
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid New Jersey School Supervisor or Principal Certification
- Administrator experience required
- Demonstrated leadership in school improvement, program development and curriculum integration and application of technology across the curriculum
- Ability to plan, organize and administer a district-level professional development program
- Independent use of Google Suite, word processing, Excel, E-Mail, Internet and appropriate software applications is highly desirable.
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

JOB GOAL:
To provide leadership in the development, implementation and coordination of the district’s curriculum.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with district leadership, principals, and teachers to develop, refine, and implement a coherent, vertically aligned curriculum in English Language Arts, ESL, and World Languages that reflects district goals and state standards.
- Leads the development and continuous improvement of literacy instruction and language acquisition programs, ensuring alignment with research-based practices and the needs of diverse learners, including multilingual learners.
- Evaluates, recommends, and oversees the adoption and implementation of instructional materials, textbooks, and programs in ELA, ESL, and World Languages through collaborative committee processes, with attention to rigor, accessibility, and cultural responsiveness.
- Provides leadership in strengthening early literacy, reading, writing, and language development as well as second language acquisition across grade levels.
- Designs and supports professional development for staff in areas such as literacy instruction, differentiated instruction, scaffolding for multilingual learners, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Participates in and brings back insights from state, regional, and national organizations related to literacy, ESL, and world language instruction.
- Recommends programmatic changes, including course offerings, program structures, and placement practices, to enhance student access, engagement, and achievement in ELA, ESL, and World Languages.
- Develops and disseminates curriculum guides, pacing documents, and instructional resources to ensure consistency and clarity across schools.
- Facilitates and supports grade-level and departmental collaboration to ensure horizontal and vertical alignment, articulation, and continuity of instruction.
- Communicates and promotes the district’s ELA, ESL, and World Language programs to families, the Board of Education, and the community, highlighting student outcomes and program strengths.
- Collaborates with principals and staff to integrate community resources and culturally relevant materials that enhance student learning and engagement.
- Stays current on and shares research and best practices in literacy, language development, and second language acquisition with staff.
- Works collaboratively with special services, counseling, and building administration to ensure appropriate support and program access for students with diverse learning needs, including English language learners.
- Monitors and supports the implementation of curriculum and instructional practices through regular meetings, school-based support, and analysis of student performance data, including district and state assessments, to inform instructional decisions and program improvements.
- Conducts observations, supervision, and evaluations of assigned staff, providing feedback aligned to instructional best practices in literacy and language instruction.
- Assists in the development and management of the budget related to ELA, ESL, and World Languages, ensuring resources are aligned with program priorities.
- Supports the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of instructional staff, with attention to content expertise and capacity to support diverse learners.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be determined as mutually agreed upon in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Salary Range: $110,000 – $140,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and in accordance with VTAA contract salary guide.
