NJSBA’s annual School Public Relations Forum on Friday, April 5 will focus on how to build community support for construction proposals and other finance questions.
Topics will include building year-round community support and the effective use of communications channels, including traditional print media, social media, community meetings, district mailings, newsletters, and the district website.
Dr. Scott Rocco, superintendent of the Hamilton Township Public Schools in Mercer County, will address “An Effective Bond Campaign: Before, During and After.” The township’s voters overwhelmingly approved a $55.4 million proposal for security upgrades, health, safety and code-required renovations, and other improvements at more than 20 school buildings in 2017.
A panel discussion, highlighting best practices from recent successful campaigns, will be moderated by Janet Bamford, manager of communications and publications for the NJSBA. Panelists will include Laura Behrmann, president, Ramsey Board of Education; Dr. Matthew Murphy, superintendent, Ramsey Public Schools; Dr. Christopher Russo, school business administrator, West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District, and Maren Smagala, director of communications for the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District.
In addition, John Burns, Esq., NJSBA counsel, will explain the Legal Do’s and Don’ts” of conducting a finance campaign.
The program will be held at NJSBA headquarters at 413 W. State St., Trenton on Friday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8:30 a.m.
