On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the Assembly Budget Committee held its hearing on Governor Sherrill’s proposed FY2027 budget for the Department of Education (DOE). DOE Commissioner Lily Laux and Schools Development Authority (SDA) CEO Manuel Da Silva testified and took questions from committee members. As the first of the Legislature’s two FY2027 DOE/SDA budget hearings – the Senate Budget Committee’s hearing is scheduled for May 12, 2026 – Wednesday’s hearing also marked the publication of additional budget analysis documents.
