At the recent Morris County School Boards Association meeting at Mount Olive High School, the Boonton Township Board of Education (BOE) was recognized for achieving board certification.
Board certification acknowledges the entire board’s commitment to effective governance and continuous improvement through training. Focus areas include ethics, goal setting, board roles and responsibilities in policy development, finance, communications, community engagement, student achievement, and other needs identified by the district. NJSBA Senior Field Representative Charlene Peterson introduced and presented the certification to the Boonton Township BOE.
This marks the fourth time Boonton Township has received board certification. It was previously honored in 2005 and 2014. In 2017, the board members earned the Carole E. Larsen Master Board award. The 2025 certification was granted about a month ago.
To earn the 16 board credits required for certification, the board worked collaboratively to hire a new superintendent, engage the community in strategic planning, hold annual goal-setting retreats, and conduct ongoing training.
The Boonton Township BOE consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to their collective responsibilities, ensuring that every member is well-prepared and actively contributes to meaningful discussions and decision-making. They maintain principles of courtesy and mutual respect, even when disagreements arise. Their unwavering focus on ensuring that the vision, mission, and goals consistently shape district operations instills confidence for the future, as the Boonton Township board members look forward to achieving their next objectives together.
